Hoffman passes 24 cars in USA Nationals at Cedar Lake to finish fourth

Action in the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series resumed for Nick Hoffman on Tuesday as the tour visited Wisconsin’s Wilmot Raceway.

After sustaining damage in a heat-race tangle, Hoffman’s misfortune carried over to the feature, where contact with another competitor on lap 36 left him limping to a 17th-place finish — the final car on the lead lap.

The Wisconsin swing continued Thursday at Cedar Lake Speedway for the 38th USA Nationals, where Hoffman topped his heat race and charged from sixth to second in the preliminary feature.

Friday’s program set the lineup for Saturday’s $100,000-to-win finale, but Hoffman slipped to fifth in his heat and came up short in his B-Main. Starting the 100-lap main event via a provisional, he advanced 21 positions to finish fourth and earn the FOX Factory Hard Charger Award.

With the strong run, Hoffman trimmed his deficit to Bobby Pierce in the championship standings to 74 points.
