Nick Hoffman finishes fifth in Gateway Dirt Nationals

Nick Hoffman invaded The Dome at America's Center (St. Louis, Mo.) over the weekend to compete in his preliminary night for the eighth edition of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.

With the 66-car field divided into two groups across Thursday and Friday, Hoffman qualified second-fastest in his group on Friday before placing first in his heat. Starting his preliminary feature in third, Nick climbed one spot in the 25-lapper to register a second-place finish. He chased race-winner Ricky Thornton Jr. to the checkers with Gordy Gundaker rounding out the podium.

After securing a spot in Saturday's redraw with his performance in Friday's preliminary race, Nick drew the fifth starting position for the $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals main event. Maintaining a steady pace throughout the 40-lap feature, Hoffman ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth place.
