Nick Hoffman
Pair of top-10's in Sunshine Nationals at Volusia
Shifting gears and returning to the Late Model ranks, Nick Hoffman unloaded the Tye Twarog Racing No. 9 Late Model at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) over the weekend for the rain-shortened Sunshine Nationals.
Joining a stacked field of 56 Late Models to kick off his pursuit for the World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series title, Hoffman outran pole-starting Dustin Sorensen in his heat race to secure the victory. With the redraw placing him on the pole for Friday’s opener, Nick wasted no time taking charge as the green flag waved. Leading the field for the first 15 laps, he set the pace early. However, a brief tussle for the top spot saw Hoffman get spun around on lap 19, forcing him to the rear of the pack. Undeterred, the Mooresville, North Carolina native fought his way back through the field, ultimately finishing in ninth.
On Saturday, Nick outpaced a competitive 57-car field in time trials, securing the overall fast time honors. He followed up his strong qualifying performance with a victory in his heat race, earning a spot in the redraw. Taking the green in fifth for the 50-lap feature, Hoffman suffered a flat right-front tire on lap 13 to bring out the second caution of the race. He mounted an impressive charge from the tail to salvage a 10th-place finish.
With the first two events in the books, Nick is currently fifth in the World of Outlaws point standings.
